Marine Village School welcomes new staff members; accept registration requests | New

The Marine Village School (MVS) is opening its doors soon! MVS has a lot of exciting things happening over the next few weeks. The technology is installed, the offices are ordered and the dream comes to life! MVS will be different in many ways and we look forward to an incredible year.

The most exciting news is that MVS has hired a new principal, Dr. Kim Kokx, and an incredibly talented team of teachers to guide students through their educational journey.

“I am thrilled to be on staff at Marine Village School! MVS offers so many experiences that truly benefit the individual learner,” said new teacher Annette Smith,

MVS also hired Carla Hinz to be the Operations Manager. Carla brings extensive school operations experience and is a native Spanish speaker. Spanish will be taught to each student every day.

The school is also delighted to have the possibility of teaching outside. One of the cornerstones of MVS is a deep connection with our environment. The school grounds and surrounding woods are an ideal hands-on laboratory from which students can make a deep connection and learn to be stewards of our natural world as a whole. Some of us also know this as place-based education, an approach deeply rooted in the study of ecology.

There will also be a maker space, an offer that is still uncommon in primary schools, and in particular in public schools. The founders of MVS recognize that time spent on creativity is paramount in growing humans to be deep thinkers and problem solvers. Students will have the time, tools and space to explore their big ideas and bring them to life. Creation spaces also provide an additional opportunity for learners to communicate their understanding of the concepts introduced during instructional time. Maker Space labs will inspire young minds to greatness.

Intentionally small class sizes will allow our faculty to focus on each student. The emphasis on top academics coupled with a love of the outdoors will allow students to learn from the incredible world around us. The inclusive curriculum will infuse every subject with arts and culture.

Marine Village School honors the individual learner. The school environment is small, but mighty. Due to the intentional size, we have the ability to develop deep connections with each learner and subsequently provide instruction that both ensures mastery and inspires learners to think deeply.

When students feel connected to adults, they feel safe, seen as the individual they are, and ultimately take the risks necessary to reach their full potential. Learners also quickly realize that they are an important addition to the culture of the School, and that they change with each of our contributions.

It’s registration time! MVS can only dream and plan for the students the school knows is coming. MVS accepts applications from kindergarten through fourth grade.
